We’re not trying to make you even more full of desperation and rage this week, we think this will be worth watching. It will remind us of certain overwhelming unpleasantries sure, but then there’s Vin B to cheer us up throughout!

The journalist and a selection of panelists will discuss the events surrounding the Irish government’s decision to guarantee the entire domestic banking system on the night of September 29th, 2008. The move became one of the most significant political decisions made in modern Irish history. A move that proved to effect all citizens of the State and create extremely hard fiscal measures.

We’ll be tuning in to see how the discussion goes and you never know there may well be some class of a fight…

Spiritual and virtual worlds will collide as part of this weekend’s “Light up a Memory” mass – as Aertv will be streaming the service live on Saturday for all those who can’t make it.

The “Light up a Memory” Mass is an opportunity to remember deceased loved ones. In memory of all those lost, candles will not only burn brightly at church this Saturday, but also across the world in a special celebration organised by Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

In a unique move that will open the celebration to the entire nation, and beyond, those unable to attend the Mass will be able to participate online and have their loved one’s memory included in the service. The Sacred Heart Church will be illuminated in candlelight with church candles in lanterns, candelabras and tea-light candles placed throughout the church. To add to the special ambience St. James Choir Ballinora will perform during the ceremony.

The “Light Up a Memory” Mass is an opportunity to remember with fondness and affection those who are no longer with us and a light is a unique gift in honour of someone special, a loved one who is in your thoughts as the light that shines becomes an inspiring beacon of remembrance and reflection for you. The “Light up a Memory” Mass will take place in the Sacred Heart Church, Western Road, Cork at 6:30pm.

Philippe Brodeur, Director of Aertv said, “Holy Souls is a very important solemn feast for people who have lost loved ones. Providing the streaming of the Mass on our platform will ensure that no matter where they are on the day, people can participate and pay tribute to someone dear to them that they have lost.”

This is the second time that this particular Mass is being celebrated by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart with the “Light up a Memory” Mass but it is the first time it is available to view online.

We’re right in the middle of festival season, and with Castlepalooza on this weekend and Electric Picnic a sell-out, it’s time we had a look at some fictional festivals we wish existed so we could add them to our summer plans. Not living in the real world? Yes. Delusional? Perhaps. But imagine these festivals were actually happening for a second and enjoy:

Waynestock

The climax to Wayne’s World 2, Waynestock was a suitably disorganised and rambunctious affair. With some militaristic and suicidal planning, the stage was set for Aerosmith to headline the event in Wayne and Garth’s home city of Aurora, Illinois. Pitching Waynestock to Christopher Walken’s ultra-condescending record exec was a masterstroke of business acumen. An old man fashioning a kayak out of a log? He probably wouldn’t have been the best addition to the weekend lineup. Still, Aerosmith did show up, and that’s all that matters.

Hullabalooza

Homer Simpson’s quest to become cool again takes him to the Hullabalooza festival and sees him become the main act at the freak show. Alongside Peter Frampton, The Smashing Pumpkins, Cypress Hill and Sonic Youth, Homer travels the country – the festival is based on Lollapalooza, of course – with his getting hit by a bowling ball fired from canon act. Despite the fact that there are petty robberies, constant advertisements and incessant sarcasm (see above) the festival is summed up with this Peter Frampton quote:

“God. Homer Simpson wrecks my pig, Cypress Hill steals my orchestra and Sonic Youth’s in my cooler. Get out of there, you kids!”

Chef Aid

When Chef got into some legal trouble over a plagiarism dispute over Alanis Morissette’s hit song “Stinky Britches”, the music community cobbled together for a benefit concert. The likes of Joe Strummer, Ozzy Osbourne, Elton John, and Meat Loaf all turned up to South Park to perform and turn the case around and even a live album was produced – which is surely the major sign that a festival has hit a tipping point of popularity. Chef Aid is also directly related to the Chewbacca Defence – so it was a concert of legal importance as well as musically significant. Well, kind of.

Bend-Aid

Bend-Aid was a benefit concert to help raise funds for broken robots following Bender’s own injury and is one of Futurama’s musical highlights. Featuring the head of Beck and the throwback/modern hybrid of Cylon and Garfunkel, the festival ended abruptly once Bender accidentally revealed he had regained his ability to move. His single, My Broken Friend, thus lost its credibility. Shame. He also lost the cheque that Cylon and Garfunkel had prepared for the cause:

Bender: “So can I keep the cheque?”

Art Garfunkel’s Descendant: “Over my dead career.”

Life ‘08

Peep Show’s Jez and Super Hans’s band are so bad they can only get on the bill at a lowly Christian Rock festival. This wouldn’t seem like the best option for them and their debauched ways, but there is fun to be had – chugging down litres of supermarket-brand cola for the sugar rush and giving themselves headrushes by standing up too quickly. This is the hedonism you come to expect from Curse These Metal Hands. Although, other names they have went through include The Hair Blair Bunch, Coming Up For Blair, Various Artists and Danny Dyer’s Chocolate Homunculus so any street cred I might have attributed to them was never really there before their one and only festival appearance.

From Saturday, May 31st, there are just 50 days to go until the annual Bray Air Display, supported by the Irish Aviation Authority, takes to the skies above the east coast during Bray Summerfest.

Ireland’s largest free air show takes off at 3.30pm on Sunday, July 20th and the display attracted a record-breaking 85,000 spectators last year, with similar numbers expected again this year.

The ‘Flying Dentist’ (former aerobatic champion, Eddie Goggins) and the ‘Flying Farmer’ (former RAF pilot, Gerry Humphreys) are teaming up once again as ‘Aer Dynamics’. Their smoke-filled display promises to fill the skies with crossover loops, synchronised hammerheads and split shamrocks.

The Aer Lingus A321 is set to open the show and The Twister Team trio are also making a welcome return, in their Silence Twister aircraft with pyrotechnic effects. The Pitts Trig Team and the Augusta Westland Aw 139 twin engine helicopter will also be entertaining the large crowds expected.

A piece of aviation history will be created on the day, with a unique display by three vintage aircraft: the Iolar from Aer Lingus along with two Chipmunks, flying in retro Irish Air Corps colours.

Meanwhile, this year’s headline acts include The Vampires of the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron, the Mig 15, the Hawker Hunter and The Sabre, which are all set to make their Bray debut.

Sé Pardy, the Display Director from Simtech Aviation, said: “This year’s display programme is the most family-friendly yet, with lots of spectacular aerial action for visitors of all ages to enjoy. From vintage planes to high speed aerobic formations, we’re welcoming top pilots from Ireland and around the world to Bray, to showcase aviation at its very best.”

For the first time this year, the three hour display will be live streamed through Aertv, helping the Bray Air Display reach international audiences online.

The Bray Air Display is just one of the highlights in the annual Bray Summerfest programme, which runs from July 5th to August 4th, subject to licence.

Due to the large crowds expected on July 20th, spectators are strongly advised to use DART, Dublin Bus and other public transport services as parking restrictions will be in place throughout the town.

More information around the Bray Air Display, which gets underway at 3.30pm, is available from http://www.brayairdisplay.com/ or http://www.braysummerfest.com/.

The event hashtag is #BrayAir and @BrayAirShow is the official Twitter account.

May 21st 2014

Written by Rob Hartnett

Athletics Ireland is taking a further step into self broadcasting with news that three summer outdoor events will be live streamed on AerTV, the online channel mixing mainstream and original content.

Viewers from around the country and the world will be able to watch live coverage from the Athletics Ireland Games this Sunday 25th of May, the Junior and U23 Championships on the 6th of July and the Juvenile Track and Field Championships on the 26th of July.

The streaming of three of Athletics Ireland Indoor Track and Field events from the track at Athlone Institute of Technology achieved the highest Irish viewership of any sport aired on Aertv.

“The feedback received from fans was overwhelmingly positive,” said Aertv’s Orlagh Marnane. “It went beyond the audience of family and friends and really connected with the wider athletics fan base.”

Competitive

“In a highly competitive sporting media environment Live streaming enables the association to become its own broadcaster,” said Sinéad Galvin, Marketing and Communications Manager of Athletics Ireland.

“We can showcase our great sport and reach a wide fan base at a relevant convergence point of on-line and social media.”

Social media plays a big role in gathering an audience and having it do the promotional work that would normally be in the hands of the broadcaster.

The trend towards self control of broadcasting has been made possible by the roll out of fast broadband and smartphone devices. There is generally little or no rights fee paid for the content but different revenue streams come to life through smaller sponsorship and the potential of pay per view.

Owned Media

Major League baseball in the US led the way with owned media and this has been rolled out to most major sports through a mix of behind the scenes and live material.

Only last week the GAA and RTE Digital announced the detail for GAAGo, a service aimed at international audiences which will charge for viewing of individual matches this summer from €10 a go.

Aertv provides streaming for a range of sports from Katie Taylor’s last fight in Cork through to the Leinster Senior Tennis open finals day in July. Basketball, Squash, Hockey and others have used the service to provide live streamed and video on demand services on key events in the last few months.

Aertv, the Irish online streaming service, has just announced that they will live stream full coverage of Olympic hero, Katie Taylor’s, fight this Saturday from Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. The 27-year-old golden girl will take on the pride of Chicago, Kristin Carlson, in front of fans at the Dungarvan Sports Centre. The announcement of live stream coverage will come as great news to her many fans both home and abroad, who are unable to attend the event. Aertv will also provide live coverage of up to 10 other bouts on the night, including local National champions Davin Duggan and Connie Mc Donagh, who won the All Ireland’s last month.Coverage from Katie Taylor’s previous fights against her opponents Marija Petric (Croatia’s Champion) and Anais Kistler (Swiss Elite Champion), which take placethis Thursday and Friday, will be shown before the live event kicks off in Dungarvanon Saturday night.

Philippe Brodeur, Director of Aertv said, “We got fantastic feedback and support when we stepped in last year to show Katie’s fights from Bray and the Mansion House. We can’t believe the lack of TV coverage our Olympic hero has had since her gold medal. Aertv are delighted to step in again to provide accessibility worldwide to this fight. Katie is the headline bout but we will also be covering 10 other bouts of top class boxing so it’s also great exposure for the sport. I’m sure families of the fighters who can’t attend will appreciate the coverage also”.

“Tickets are selling well and there is a great buzz about Saturday night in the town,” said Dungarvan BC Secretary Gerry O’Mahoney, the President of the IABA Munster Council.

Katie herself is looking forward to all three bouts adding: “I had a number of bouts before the London Olympics in Cork and Waterford and I got a fantastic reception and I’m looking forward to three tough bouts there this week. Competitive bouts are also very important before major tournaments,” she said.

Remaining tickets for the Cork shows are on sale from the Rochestown Park Hotel.Ring (021) 489 0800. For Dungarvan contact Gerry O’Mahoney on (087) 7545 100 or the Dungarvan Sports Centre on (058) 21324 for tickets for Saturday.

Great to see AerTV providing this service since so often fans especially in the rest of Ireland have little chance of seeing their heroes in action and not everyone can afford to always visit the National Stadium (in the case of boxing) especially as it invariably includes expensive overnight stay plus long distance car travel, expensive fuel and food costs.

Highlights of the Cork bouts from 19.30 (IST) with ’ FREE’ LIVE Streaming from the Dungarvan Sports centre scheduled from 20.00 (IST).

You can watch the live stream and coverage of Katie Taylor’s bouts on AertvSportsLive – http://sportslive.aertv.ie/

A reminder that Aertv has covered over 30 sports and over 500 games since their first live stream of an International hockey event in July 2012. The site gets an average 500,000 streams per month with live Sport being the number 1 driver of traffic. 45% of users access the service on mobile devices.

Aertv’s live events are currently viewed in over 180 countries. The company has strategically positioned themselves in the online sports broadcasting industry by being the number one provider of live streaming services in Ireland. Aertv regularly work with Irish organisations including Cricket, Basketball, Hockey and Athletics to achieve TV coverage online like never before.

That LIVE stream link once again: http://sportslive.aertv.ie/

Ireland’s two ODIs against Sri Lanka will be streamed live via YouTube after an agreement was struck with Irish online TV provider Aertv. The broadcast, which will be supported by the ICC’s Development Programme, will make use of four high-definition cameras as well as replays and commentary.

The deal is similar to last year’s arrangement with Quipu TV for the visit of Pakistan, which was viewed by almost 300,000 people. Sri Lanka will prepare for their tour of England with one-dayers against Ireland at Clontarf on May 6 and 8.

“We’ve seen with previous broadcasts just how much of an appetite there is for cricket coverage, and it’s fantastic for Irish and cricket supporters worldwide to be able to view these matches online,” Cricket Ireland’s chief executive, Warren Deutrom, said. “It’s another important step in securing the long-term legacy for international cricket in Ireland as we look to take the game here to a higher level and a wider audience.”

The games will be streamed on the Cricket Ireland website and its YouTube channel, as well as on Dublin-based Aertv’s website. Ireland’s recent trip to the Caribbean, where they beat West Indies for the first time in a T20 international, was also broadcast online.

Athletics Ireland and the Irish Universities Athletics Association are looking to repeat a crowd funding campaign that was successful in February in order to secure live online coverage of the IUAA Track and Field Championships this weekend.

Six weeks ago the Irish athletics community secured funding for live streaming coverage of their indoor event at Athlone Institute of Technology. The IUAA were unable to attract a sponsor for the event but through nTrai, a crowd-funding website, they managed to gather over the €1,800 that was required in just two days. Read more about that campaign.

Aer TV provided the streaming technology and the platform while Feidhlim Kelly and the team at Jump the Gun provided the commentary.

The athletes promoted the fundraising campaign via social media and appealed to their community to donate by posting videos through their Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other channels.

“We are delighted to be hosting the fundraising project again in conjunction with IUAA and Aertv” said David O’Shea, founder of nTrai. “The indoor campaign went extremely well and I’m sure the athletes will get behind the project again. It’s a real example of participants helping to make their sport better.”

“Irish sports are often under-represented by the traditional broadcasters,” added Phillipe Brodeur, Director of AerTV. “We want to provide a platform for all sports in Ireland and share their passion. Aertv SportsLive can provide fantastic exposure and promotion for all sports and athletes. If budget is a problem for getting coverage, crowd-funding provides the solution and everybody benefits.”
